Written by: Khaled Abdul Hamid Mustafa .. Peace Deferred: Between the Ashes of the Past and the Flames of Tomorrow

History has always been a witness to the role of the Jews in different societies, whether in Europe or the Middle East. From the Middle Ages until the twentieth century, they were subjected to repeated waves of persecution, the most prominent of which was the Nazi Holocaust during World War II. This tragedy helped push world powers to embrace the idea of creating their own state, leading to the creation of Israel in 1948, with strong Western support

But did the Jews take advantage of this opportunity to make peace, or did they turn to policies that might turn the wheel of history back?

From the suffering of the past to the exploitation of the present.”

After World War II, there was a historic opportunity for Jews to become part of the world, coexisting peacefully with others. However, the Zionist movement chose the approach of force and settlement, which created ongoing conflicts with the Palestinians and Arab countries. Instead of the Holocaust being a lesson in tolerance and integration, it turned into a justification tool for all Israeli policies, even if they were unjust.

“Peace is a golden opportunity that has not been exploited.”

In 1979, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel, and this was a defining moment. Cairo provided an unprecedented opportunity for Tel Aviv to integrate into the region, but Israeli policies did not move towards true reconciliation. Instead, it continued to expand settlements and impose a fait accompli by force, making the idea of peaceful coexistence unattainable.

With the recent wave of normalization between Israel and several Arab countries, there seems to be another chance for peace. But if Tel Aviv continues its aggressive policies towards the Palestinians, this peace may be just a temporary truce that will quickly explode under the weight of popular anger and political changes.

Are the Jews heading towards new persecution?

History repeats itself, but in different forms. If Israel continues its policies of occupation and oppression, it may face increasing international isolation, and even global rejection similar to what the Jews in Europe were exposed to during past times. The international community began to see Israel not as a victim, but as a colonial power that imposed its control by force.

If Israel does not change its policies, it may one day find itself facing comprehensive global rejection, which could lead to serious repercussions for it. Continuing to use force will not produce peace, but rather will create a state of global hostility, the results of which may be disastrous.

The path to the future: the choice of peace or escalation.”

The Jews have two choices: either they become part of the world, living in peace with their neighbors, or they continue the path of force, which may lead them to a new tragedy. The world gave them a historic opportunity after World War II, and the Arab countries also provided them with repeated opportunities for peace, but the continuation of aggressive policies may lead to unpredictable results.

In conclusion, "Peace is not weakness, but rather true strength. If Israel does not realize this truth, it may find itself facing a future that is not much different from the past it is trying to escape from. Will it understand the lesson before it is too late?"
